On February 17, 2019, at approximately 1:50 PM, officers responded to the Oprandy’s Wine & Liquor Store, located at 481 North Dean Street in Englewood, on a report of an activated burglar alarm.
Upon arrival, the responding officers determined that a burglary had just occurred at the store, which was closed. During the burglary, over $1,000 in currency was removed from several cash registers in the store by a male wearing dark clothing, gloves and a light-colored mask of some type. Attached is a clip from the store’s internal surveillance system.
This burglary comes in the wake of a theft from the same store on February 8, 2019, during which time a male, carrying a large piece of plastic covering his face, entered the store that was open for business, went behind the counter and stole currency from a lottery cash register. The store owners chased the male from the store and the suspect dropped some of the stolen money, along with his disguise, before escaping the area. No arrest has been made in that case as of yet.
Detectives are investigating both crimes and it is unknown if the two incidents are related.
Store owners are reminded to keep minimal amounts of cash, if any, in the registers during and after business hours.
